DOT (Department of Transportation) consortium services are organizations that provide a range of services to help businesses and individuals comply with DOT regulations. These services are typically designed to assist companies in managing their drug and alcohol testing programs, as well as ensuring compliance with other DOT requirements such as driver qualification and vehicle safety. DOT consortium services may include the administration of drug and alcohol testing programs, assistance with regulatory compliance, and training and education programs for employees and management.

DOT Consortium Services
All CDL drivers operating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) (greater than 26,000 GVWR, or transporting more than 16 passengers, including the driver, or placarded hazardous materials) on public roadways must be DOT drug and alcohol tested. This applies to any driver required to possess a CDL. This includes those employed by Federal, State, and local government agencies, "owner operators," and equivalently licensed drivers from foreign countries. Part-time drivers must also be included in an employer's drug and alcohol testing program. Drivers who only operate CMVs on private property not open to the public do not require testing.
Some DOT consortium services offer extra resources, such as access to legal and regulatory experts and aid with audit preparation and response. By partnering with a DOT consortium service, businesses can guarantee they fulfill their regulatory obligations, operate safely and responsibly, and decrease the administrative burden and compliance expenses.
View more information on the FMCSA website regarding drug and alcohol testing requirements.
